Try three 30 second tests in a row and aim to keep your accuracy above 95% on each one before pushing for more speed.
Frequently asked questions
How many 30 second tests should I do a day?
Ten to fifteen focused minutes of practice a day, split into short tests with breaks, improves speed faster than one long session.
How is WPM calculated?
Words per minute counts every 5 correctly typed characters, including spaces, as one word, divided by the minutes elapsed. Raw WPM counts every keystroke, right or wrong. Accuracy is the share of keystrokes that were correct, so mistakes still count even if you fix them.
Is WPMTrack free and private?
Yes. Every test, lesson and certificate is free with no account. Your results and history are stored only in this browser and are never uploaded.
What does consistency mean?
Consistency measures how steady your speed was from second to second. 100% means you typed at exactly the same pace the whole time; lower numbers mean bursts and pauses.
