Medical scribes and transcriptionists are usually tested on both speed and accuracy. Aim for 98% accuracy here before you push your WPM higher.

Frequently asked questions

What typing speed is needed for medical transcription?

Employers commonly ask for 50 to 65 WPM with very high accuracy. Medical scribes are often asked for 40 to 60 WPM.

How is WPM calculated?

Words per minute counts every 5 correctly typed characters, including spaces, as one word, divided by the minutes elapsed. Raw WPM counts every keystroke, right or wrong. Accuracy is the share of keystrokes that were correct, so mistakes still count even if you fix them.

Is WPMTrack free and private?

Yes. Every test, lesson and certificate is free with no account. Your results and history are stored only in this browser and are never uploaded.

What does consistency mean?

Consistency measures how steady your speed was from second to second. 100% means you typed at exactly the same pace the whole time; lower numbers mean bursts and pauses.
